Biography

Violinist Mariela Castro, a current undergraduate student at California Baptist University, is pursuing a double major in Music Education and Instrumental Performance, studying under Dr. Jin-Hee Kim. She began playing violin in fourth grade and has been playing ever since. She was involved in various district and local orchestras throughout middle and high school, including the San Bernardino County Honor Orchestra and Claremont Young Musicians Intermezzo Orchestra. Mariela is a current member of the CBU Symphony Orchestra, the University Choir and Orchestra, chamber groups, and the CBU Opera pit orchestra. She is working toward becoming a music teacher and plans to teach privately as well. Outside of school, Mariela teaches at a local music studio, volunteers, and plays weekly at her home church.

What inspired you to go into music?

My first solo performance opportunity in 7th grade inspired me to pursue music!

What is an interesting fact about you?

I love anything stationery and like to collect pens, highlighters, and markers!

What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?

I love crocheting! I also enjoy rock climbing, journaling, and serving at my church!

What are you most excited for about this 2024-2025 season?

The opportunity to play even more music!
