Her musical journey started in the third grade with piano lessons, which laid the groundwork for her future musical endeavors. In fifth grade, Marcela expanded her skills by learning the trumpet. Her interest in brass instruments grew, and she switched to the euphonium a year later. It wasn't until her freshman year of high school that she found her true passion in the French horn, which has been her main instrument ever since.

Marcela graduated from California Baptist University (CBU) with a degree in Chemistry, but she stayed deeply involved in the university's musical community. She played in various ensembles, including the Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, University Choir and Orchestra, Brass Quintet, Chamber Ensembles, and the Opera Orchestra. These experiences helped her refine her French horn skills and broaden her musical horizons. Throughout her time at CBU, Marcela balanced her love for chemistry and music with dedication and enthusiasm. Her choice to pursue graduate studies in Instrumental Performance shows her deep passion for music and her desire to further improve her craft.

Marcela dreams of performing professionally, whether in pit orchestras for theater productions or in a symphony orchestra. At the same time, she plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemistry, aiming to blend her academic and artistic talents in a unique and fulfilling career. Her journey highlights the power of following diverse passions and finding harmony between different fields.

What inspired you to go into music?

The inspiration to delve into music came from observing my family members actively involved in both classical music settings and informal garage band sessions. This exposure broadened my understanding of music and steered my interests. However, it wasn't until middle school that I became deeply immersed in music, particularly through orchestral and musical theater experiences. Expressing emotions through the instruments I played became a profound outlet, igniting a strong passion for music within me.

What is an interesting fact about you?

I enjoy doing latte art! In the last latte art throwdown I competed in, I ended up coming in 4th out of 25 contestants.

What activities do you enjoy in your spare time?

I love photography! I also rock climb with my closet friends when we don't have rehearsals.

What are you most excited for about this 2024-2025 season?

Meeting new people and getting a chance to perform with a new orchestra!
